While life in the battalion is in some ways similar to basic training with early morning pt, inspections, scripture memory, and uniform ironing, it is also quite different. A man is given much more freedom to make his own choices. Most evenings are generally free for men to play sports, call home, study, and enjoy building camaraderie with the men that they are around.
Classes generally run from 8am to 5pm with a break for lunch at noon. On occasion you will have a class that may run into Saturday, but generally the bulk of your weekend is free. Most men take this time to enjoy the campus and catch up with family back home. For Sunday morning service men have the choice of going to chapel on campus, or attending one of two churches that we take men to off campus. Trips to town are also offered at least once per month.
Scripture memory is still a requirement along with journaling and sending a letter home, but for the majority of a mans time in the battalion he is responsible for how he spends his time. ALERT is merely an opportunity for tremendous mental, physical, & spiritual growth. It is for the man himself to make the most of the opportunity.
