Unit 42 First PT Test

September 18th, 2009

In order to judge the men’s physical condition, recruits take the ALERT Physical Fitness Test (PT test).  Passing this test is one of the requirements for promoting out of Basic Training. If the men do not pass today they will be giving several other chances throughout Basic Training to do so. To pass the PT test, recruits must do at least 42 pushups, 52 situps, and run 2 miles in 15:54 or less. Many recruits aim for PT Excellence which is 82 pushups, 92 situps, and 2 miles in 11:54 or less.

Squad Running

The recruits jog over to the PT field by squads.  Here is Alpha First with Specialist O’Sullivan.

Stretch

Next comes a time of stretching. Pictured here is Corporal Ruhl and Charlie Third.

Instruction

Unit 42 listens as the standards and grading criteria are explained by Senior Drill Sergeant Archibald.

Cook PU

The PT test starts with Pushups.  Pictured here is Recruit Cook.

Situp

Recruit Dolan and others perfoming situps.

Run Start

After the pushups and situps are finished the recruits move to the track for the two mile run. The rain which had begun during the situps continued to intensify, making for a wet two miles.

Run

Overall the Unit 42 did well on the PT test, with 12 men passing.

Great Photos! Thank you so much for taking the time to post them! It does help us to feel connected to Benjamin and the rest of the men! May God bless each of them!
