Dr. Voddie Baucham
In an age dominated by pop psychology, Dr. Voddie Baucham is a true prophet. His blend of sound biblical exposition, cultural and philosophical insight, engaging style and substance makes him truly unique among the many voices attempting to decipher the current cultural and family crisis.
Voddie is a pastor, professor, author, conference speaker and church planter. He is one of the most sought-after Bible teachers of his generation. He is as comfortable leading a bible study in his home with two or three families as he is preaching before thousands, or lecturing on college campuses.
Known as one of the ‘architects’ of the contemporary Family Integrated Church movement, Dr. Baucham is frequently sought out by pastors, professors and church planters working to understand the FIC phenomenon. His book, Family Driven Faith has helped shape the contemporary discussion about family discipleship and family integrated ministry.
Voddie’s journey to Christ and the gospel ministry was anything but usual. He was born in Los Angeles, California and raised by a single mother. He did not hear the gospel until his freshman year in college. It was there that He came to faith in Christ. As a student-athlete at Rice University, Voddie responded to God’s call on his life and entered the gospel ministry. As a result, he left Rice University his senior year to pursue theological training at Houston Baptist University. He graduated from H.B.U. with a B.A. in Christianity and Sociology. From there he earned a Master’s degree from Southwestern Seminary, and a Doctorate from Southeastern Seminary; and has done additional Post-graduate study at the University of Oxford, England.
Voddie and his wife, Bridget have been married since 1989. They are avid readers, avid travelers, and avid food connoisseurs. They have four children, Jasmine, Trey, Elijah and Asher. Unable to have more children after Jasmine and Trey, Voddie and Bridget
began to pursue the expansion of their family through adoption. They adopted Elijah in 2004, and Asher in 2007. They hope to adopt several more children in the coming years. The Bauchams have been committed home educators since 1999.
The Baucham family has overcome a legacy of failed marriages, broken homes, and fatherlessness to become a vibrant, thriving example of the redemptive power of God.
Dr. Lew Sterrett
Growing up on a farm in southeastern Pennsylvania, Lew was familiar with many animals, but had a special affection for horses. Joining the 4-H program at the earliest opportunity, he benefited from being in the 4-H horse programs and had many opportunities to train, show, and attain national recognition.
Upon acquiring that training and marrying in 1975, he and his wife, Melodie, moved to southern California, where they instructed in a Christian equine college. The Lord used that time to emphasize more keenly the needs of people and the benefits of practical vocational training. In 1977, Lew and Melodie returned to northwestern Pennsylvania to assume the directorship of Miracle Mountain Ranch Missions, located 50 miles southeast of Erie. Although formerly a summer youth camp, the ministry has grown over the last several years to become a full-fledged Christian Training Center, which oversees a summer youth camp, a year-round intense leadership training program, weekend seminars and training, a counseling ministry, and many avenues of outreach to both secular and religious audiences, as well as to specific horse and school groups. Lew has also been involved in promoting safety in public riding groups internationally.
During the course of these years, a ministry entitled “Sermon On The Mount®” developed as a means of communicating the basic relational principles which govern all human relationships.
The dynamic method of using horses to illustrate relational principles became an effective way to encourage parents, strengthen young people, and motivate others to build their lives on Biblical truths. These presentations have made a valuable impact in the lives of many people through such key elements as discerning the difference between training and teaching, understanding the perimeters of love through balanced discipline, and successful implementation of effective methods. Subjects relating to faith, virtue, self-control, character, conquering defeating habits, and defining significant life purposes are presented. By using one to four horses, each session captivates the interest of all age groups.
