On Monday, August 3, half of the Quest group traveled to Madisonville, TX to provide disaster cleanup in the city and county area. After a four-hour bus trip, the 35 men spent the night in the Madisonville VFD station before working for five hours today. The group were able to remove large trees and debris from several properties around the city, serving residents who were unable to remove the debris themselves.

I am excited to announce that Quest and ALERT Aquatics have joined forces to bring world-class SCUBA training to Quest students. During the last week of Quest, students have the option of taking part in a WASI/NASE certified Open Water Diver course. This certification is recognized worldwide and allows students to rent gear and dive with a dive buddy at nearly any SCUBA dive location.

Your son already has experienced some of the excitement of diving when the ALERT Aquatics divemasters took them for an exploratory dive. The next step is to take the Open Water Diver course during Quest.

Dates & Pricing
The Quest Open Water Diver course takes place August 1 through August 6, 2009. It takes place during Quest, so there is no need to change transportation arrangements. The program cost is $295 which covers all of the books, tuition, dive costs, and gear rental. Students will have a little over a day of classroom time, and then several different dives in exciting locations.

How to Register
In order to reserve your spot, please email me right away if you want to register your son. We will need you to download these forms and then fax or email them back to us:

Each year, an amazing, high-caliber team of young men comes together to make Quest happen. These dedicated servant leaders disciple, mentor, and care for the students that come through Quest while learning about leadership and life from older, more experienced mentors.

Do you want to make a difference in this world? We would invite you to consider applying for Quest Leadership. Serving on staff at Quest is not easy, in fact, any former Quest leader can assure you that it is one of the most difficult things you can do. It means sacrificing your time and energies, denying your self, serving others, and following Christ’s example of selfless love. However, you will be storing up treasure in heaven and experiencing the incredible reward you get when you make a difference in someone else’s life.

We are looking for young men ages 16 and up, interested in leadership, with proven character & a solid track record of leading at home, at school, or at church. Those chosen to be staff at Quest must first complete a basic leadership course at home, and then come to our campus for ten days of training and preparation before Quest begins.

If you are interested in this opportunity, head on over to our downloads page to download the application.

The interest in this summer’s upcoming Quest program is more than we have ever had! Many people have had questions about Quest 2009 and so here is a brief rundown of the key information:

When: July 11 – August 7, 2009 (Saturday through Friday)

Where: The International ALERT Academy campus in Big Sandy, TX (click for a map). We do provide transportation from and to DFW and Dallas-Love Field airports.

Cost: $1,245 for the first student and $1,065 for additional students from the same family. This includes a $50 transportation fee that will be refunded if you arrive by personal vehicle to our campus.

Application Forms: I know that the application form on this website is outdated. We are working to resolve this, but do not have a finished copy of the 2009 application form. Just be patient, and keep an eye out on this page for updates.

If you have further questions, please email me at quest@alertacademy.com. I will do my best to answer them in a timely manner.

The Quest group will be leaving today for a three day camping trip on the beautiful Lower Mountain Fork river in southeastern Oklahoma. After a short drive to the campsite, the students will spend the next few days relaxing, enjoying fun activities with each other, having campfire devotionals, and completing a four hour canoe trip down the river. The canoe trip features Class 1 and Class 2 rapids which will pose a fun, exciting, and safe challenge to the students, who have been studying canoeing for the past three weeks.
Wednesday afternoon, the Quest group will then travel back to the IAA campus for the final two days of Quest.

Questions or calls during the Quest river trip can be directed to the Quest office at (903) 636-2000 ext. 2777. If you have a son on the trip, he will not have access to any phones and will be unable to call home.

If you are interested in coming to the final banquet and graduation ceremony, you must register with Stacey Smith by Tuesday, August 5, 2008 at 5:00 PM. You can call her at (903) 636-2000 ext. 2101.
