Update on Friday, July 13
July 13th, 2007
The first week of Quest has gone exceptionally well. The 69 students have been models of good behavior and we have been greatly encouraged to see how quickly they learn, how driven they are to serve, and how they continually “urge each other towards well-doing.”
Steve Menzel wrapped up his sessions yesterday morning, and then joined the group for some fast-paced dodgeball games.
Cpt. Menzel shared his heart on the issues of manhood, emphasizing the importance of character.
He challenged these young men to be different then the world. “A solid Christian young man understands purpose in life. The difference between Christians and non-Christians is vision,” he explained, then went on to lament, “The world no longer sees much difference between Christians and non-Christians.” In his conversations with the students, he emphasized how difficult living a Christian life is. “Christianity is like running up the down escalator,” he explained, “…it’s hard, but it sure is fun.”
Prior to playing dodgeball, each team had to pass a surprise inspection. This was, as it turns out, quite surprising for them; four teams passed right away, and the other eight teams had to clean up before joining the group in the gym. We were impressed by how quickly and excellently everyone cleaned their rooms up.
Red group completed basic Home Electrical training on Thursday and will do their Home Plumbing class this afternoon. Green group finishes their canoe training this afternoon, and Blue group will do some scenarios and take their First Aid course test today as well.
