Course Description:
Skills Training for Emergency Preparedness (STEP), an outdoor adventure program for young ladies ages 15 and older, is designed to build confidence on individual and team levels, while preparing young ladies to respond to life’s emergencies, as they learn to put their trust in the Lord.

STEP will enrich each young lady in personal spiritual disciplines, physical fitness, and emergency skills.

Spiritual Disciplines

Weekly devotions from the book of Philippians, including:
Week 1—Confidence through Christ—(Chapter 1)
Week 2—Mind of Christ—(Chapter 2)
Week 3—Knowledge of Christ—(Chapter 3)
Week 4—Peace of Christ—(Chapter 4)

Personal Disciplines

  • Journaling
  • Scripture memory (large portions of Philippians)
  • Outreach Ministry, Music, Crafts
  • Character Training in punctuality, humility, orderliness, deference and more

Emergency Skills Training


  • Physical Fitness (Hiking, daily group physical training)
  • Basic First Aid and CPR
  • Personal Safety Awareness
  • Survival Skills (Fire building, freshwater production, shelter construction)


  • Navigation (Map and compass, orienteering)
  • Search-and-Rescue Techniques (Navigation without a compass, grid search techniques, clue ID, lost person behavior)
  • Technical Outdoor (Training ropes and knots, river crossing with ropes, basic rappelling skills)
  • Basic Water Safety (Canoe training, personal water safety)


  • Basic Electrical (Use of breaker panel, electrical safety, basic wiring)
  • Basic Plumbing (Emergency water shut-off, problem solving)
  • General Household Maintenance (Drywall repair/caulking, painting techniques, picture hanging)
  • Basic Auto Maintenance (Roadside emergency, routine maintenance)
  • Financial Planning (Budgeting, God’s four purposes for money, basic financial terms, personal money management)
